WHEN it comes to big band music there is one British band that dominates the scene -- the Syd Lawrence Orchestra.

And the band which has blown away audiences around the world for the past 30 years is playing at the Blackpool Grand Theatre on June 25 at 7.30pm.

Formed in 1967 by Syd Lawrence himself and now led by world class trombonist Chris Dean, the orchestra was recently voted "World's Top Big Band" by music lovers.

Tony Bennett, Johnny Mathis, Matt Munro, Petula Clark and Dame Vera Lynn are just some of the famous names who have appeared with the orchestra.

Their repertoire has grown over the years and now features not only the music of many of the great big bands of the past, but a growing number of its own original arrangements.

The Citizen is offering three pairs of tickets to see the Syd Lawrence Orchestra as prizes in our latest super competition. And the first entry to be drawn out of the hat will also win the orchestra's brilliant CD, Live And Swinging, Volume One, featuring all its greatest hits.

To have a chance of winning a prize simply answer the following question:

In what year did Syd Lawrence form the orchestra?

Send your answers to the Syd Lawrence Orchestra Competition, The Citizen, St Annes Buildings, Clifton Drive North, St Annes, FY8 2NA. Entries should reach us no later than June 22. Please also include your daytime telephone number
