MORECAMBE'S Auckland Hotel beat off tough competition to scoop second spot in a prestigious national competition.
The family run 41 room hotel finished second to the St Kilda Hotel, Llandudno, in the Individual section of the Group Travel Awards 2000.
Hotel partner Michael Wood, said: "We are overwhelmed that we have been voted runners-up, especially when you consider the quality of the other hotels we were up against.
"It's quite an achievement, it's good for the Auckland and, at the same time, we feel it is good for Morecambe."
The Auckland, which caters mostly for coach parties, was nominated by readers of Group Travel Organiser magazine.
