SIX St Helens schools have scored top marks in the latest round of government awards.
The six - Birchley St Mary's RC, Eccleston Mere, Rivington, St Mary's RC and District C of E primary schools, plus Rainford High School -- have been earmarked among the best in Britain and given special Beacon status.
As well as receiving a £32,000 cash boost, the schools will work together with other schools in the borough to improve standards.
Councillor Andy Bowden, St Helens Council's Cabinet Executive for Education and Lifelong Learning, said: "It is a real achievement that the DIEE has allocated Beacon status to so many schools within St Helens this year. This reflects the dedication of the staff and hard work of the pupils in those schools. We are proud of the achievements and progress made across the borough over recent years and we believe we can continue to build on this success in the future."
EVELYN County Primary School in Evelyn Avenue, Prescot has also been awarded Beacon Status, having recently received a Government Charter Mark recognising the school's outstanding high quality of service.
