IN the early hours of Sunday, June 4, devastating floods hit Todmorden, causing damage to approximately 700 homes and 30 businesses.
Eighty homes have had to be evacuated until they can be repaired.
Many elderly people and young families had no insurance to cover for their home contents while others are not claiming up to their maximum allowance.
The clean-up of the town has commenced, but each day brings stories of heartbreak, as those hit by the floods discover new areas of damage or items to be replaced.
At the same time, businesses are beginning to lay workers off while their insurance claims are settled, further affecting those devastated by the floods.
It is, therefore, on behalf of all these homes in need, I ask for help in the form of donations to be sent to me. Cheques should be made payable to Calderdale Community Foundation.
COUNCILLOR JOSEF REZ, Mayor, Town Hall, Todmorden OL14 5AA.
