FOUR people were arrested in early morning police raids on houses in Burnley today as part of a crackdown on burglary.

About a dozen officers took part in the operation, targeting homes in Casterton Avenue and Latham Street.

Two men and two women were arrested and taken to Burnley police station for questioning.

Sgt Chris Bithell said: "A quantity of suspected stolen goods and a quantity of suspected drugs were seized."

The action was taken by officers working on Operation Fortress, a year-long crackdown on crime.

Sgt Bithell said: "The action was taken in response to a spate of burglars in the Duke Bar and Queensgate areas over the past two or three weeks.

"Offenders have been breaking in through kitchen windows. We would urge householders in the area to check their windows and to make them as secure as possible."
