A YOUNG wife was allegedly mown down in the street by a woman neighbour whose family was feuding with hers, a jury was told.

Burnley Crown Court heard how Farzana Kauser Taj went over the bonnet of the car after it drove straight towards her and mounted the pavement.

Her father, who saw the incident, told the court he thought his daughter was dead and that "they had tried to kill her," or break her legs.

Mrs Taj said she was shocked, scared and shaking after being hit by the car and had collapsed after her parents picked her up. She was taken to Blackburn Royal Infirmary.

Rabenah Bostan, 28, of Richmond Hill Street, Accrington, said to have been at the wheel of the car, denies dangerous driving and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. Mrs Taj, also of Richmond Hill Street, told the jury there was only one person in the Nissan Bluebird and that was the defendant.

Mrs Taj, who had been to work, said she suffered a grazed right eye, grazes, sore ribs and stomach muscle pains. She also had whiplash injuries to her neck and a swollen right leg.

Miss Kathryn Johnson defending said: "You weren't hit by a car driven by Rabenah Bostan. You are blaming her because of difficulties between your family and her family." Mrs Taj: "I was."

Miss Johnson: "There is no love lost between you and the Bostan family, in particular Rabenah Bostan, is there?" Mrs Taj: "No."

The complainant's father, taxi driver Mohammed Rashid, said he saw a Nissan Bluebird swerve and go straight towards his daughter.

He said: "I screamed 'they are going to kill her'." He said he saw Mrs Taj fall over the bonnet and on to grass. He denied a suggestion that he was "making it up as he went along," because of a feud between his family and the Bostans.
