BUSINESSES which fail to deal with rubbish properly face fines of up to £20,000 -- and campaign group Water Watch wants to help companies avoid the risks.
Water Watch has joined the Environment Agency and Viridor Waste Management to come up with pollution guidelines to protect the rivers in the Mersey Basin, which includes East Lancashire.
The guidelines target litter and debris in the region's waterways by helping companies draw up waste management plans. For a free copy of the guidelines, call 0161 242 8204.
