GET ready to see the skies come alive when the RAF Red Arrows aerobatic aces take part in the Blackpool with Altitude skyshows.

Fans of flight will be able to see a range of spectacular displays throughout the afternoon of Sunday, July 23.

The programme opens with Phil Womack's giant kites and a model aircraft flying demonstration at 9.30am. These will be followed by Firestorm, the North West fire brigades' parachute display team, dropping in on Central beach at 11.30am.

Hover around for an hour and you'll see the nine Hawk jets of the world -famous RAF Red Arrows performing their stunning high-speed display of close formation aerobatics.

This will be followed by the barnstorming Utterly Butterly Stearman bi-planes, each featuring a girl standing and twirling on the upper wing.

Topping off the afternoon at 4.30pm will be a thunderous display by a 1,500 mph RAF swing-wing Tornado jet.

Blackpool's head of tourism, Jane Seddon said she is looking forward to the event and added: "With the Tower, the Pepsi Max Big One and now the skyshows, Blackpool is definitely the resort with altitude!"

From July 21-24 there will also be an exhibition of RAF aircraft, missiles and equipment on Princess Parade, near North Pier.
