MEMBERS of Blackburn with Darwen's Festivals Committee are gearing up for a three-week extravaganza organised to mark the South Asian quota of the borough's year long millennium celebrations.

The voluntary community group, which has been raising money for local and national charities in the past five years, has lined up a busy schedule of events beginning with a concert at King George's Hall on Sunday July 30.

The three week festival will continue to offer a host of family events including a huge open air concert in Blackburn town centre on Sunday August 13.

A battle of the bands competition, curry tasting sessions and sports tournaments will provide entertainment, alongside a women's party, food and health event and cinema festival.
