THE highways department strikes again. They have installed a pelican crossing on the junction of Elephant Lane and Sutton Heath Road.
It is not the crossing that is at fault, it is the position. It is too close to the corner and anyone turning left into Elephant Lane from Sutton Heath Road is on the crossing before they know it.
When looking right up Elephant Lane to check for oncoming traffic, drivers are pulling out right on top of the crossing and are confronted with people already walking across the road.
It is only a matter of time before someone gets knocked down.
Also it is so close to the corner off-licence that gangs of youths have taken it upon themselves to loiter on the crossing and give abuse to drivers who think they are waiting to cross the road. In fact, they are just messing about having drunk beers just obtained from the off-licence adjacent.
