POLICE in St Helens have arrested more than 70 people at the start of the week long Merseyside Police Force initiative "Streetsafe". The operation is designed to transfer the fear of crime from the victim to the offender by working with the community and other agencies. And the police have been setting their sights on four target areas -- burglaries, autocrime, violence and drugs.
DCI Taffy Williams said at the time of going to press that more arrests were imminent. He said: "The initiative being carried out this week will show with help from members of the public we can take direct action. I would urge everyone to continue to support the work of local officers."
Anyone who can provide information to help police cut crime can contact St Helens police on 0151 777 6969, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
