POLICE are appealing for a Morecambe resident, who helped a woman after she was attacked and robbed, to contact them.

They fear the 42-year-old, from Accrington, may also have had a drink spiked.

She suffered bruising and soreness after an attack outside a takeaway in the West End between 7.30pm and 8pm on Friday night.

She suffered memory loss for several hours afterwards.

A local woman found her lying in an alley close to the takeaway and took her back to a flat.

The victim woke up at 4am and immediately went to Morecambe police station to report the theft of £160 in cash, a pair of gold loop barley sugar earrings and a cash card.

Det Insp Andy Chambers of Lancaster police said: "The last thing this woman remembers is standing outside a chip shop, before waking up some time later in an alleyway.

"She was taken back to a flat by a lady, but she can't remember where the lady lives or her name.

"There is nothing for her to be worried about, but we are asking her to get in touch because we think she might be able to help us piece together what happened earlier in the evening."

The incident comes just a week after police expressed concern that so-called date rape drugs were being used in Lancaster nightclubs.

DI Chambers added: "The woman had been drinking, but she had not had enough for her to lose memory, so there are concerns that her drink may have been spiked.

"All of the drink spiking incidents we talked about last week actually took place in Lancaster."
