IT WAS thumbs up for Preston Harriers at the weekend as they arrived home champions of a major running event.

The Harriers narrowly beat Lancashire rivals Wigan Phoenix by two points in the Preston Women's 10km run when the team's first three finishing runners completed the course in 2nd, 5th and 18th places.

The race, which is now in its third year and attracted more than 100 entries, began at Tulketh High School on Tag Lane, Ingol, and made its way around Fulwood.

Doing the Harriers proud was second placed Philippa Walsh, who crossed the finish line in a an amazing time of 39mins 10secs.

And in fifth place was Jane Hodkinson, with a time of 41mins 17secs, just infront of Sarah Fisher who finished 18th in exactly 46 mins.

The outright individual winner of the race was Wigan's Debra Curley in a time of 36mins 14secs.
