ST ANNES 262-3 MORECAMBE (Did not bat)
RAIN at Woodhill Lane probably robbed St Annes of their fourth win of the season after they posted a formidable total.
St Annes captain, Russ Bradley won the toss, and decided to bat. His openers, Adrian Darlington and Andy Kellett put on 26 for the first wicket before Kellett was caught by Andrew Mashiter playing his first game for the club now that he is back home from University off Farouk Patel for three.
Kellett had been content to play a sheet anchor pole, whilst Darlington monopolised the opening Morecambe place attack of Peter Stephens and Farouk Patel. The domination of the Morecambe bowling attack continued when Darlington and St Annes professional, Dave Callaghan featured in a 184 runs partnership for the second wicket.
Darlington was eventually bowled by Morecambe professional, Ashwell Prince, the third change bowler for 102.
He batted 170 minutes, and hit 9 fours. His half-century came in 90 minutes and his hundred in 167 minutes.
Dave Callaghan and Steve Twist added 21 runs for the third wicket before Twist was trapped lbw by Stephens for six.
The St Annes innings closed with Dave Callaghan scoring an undefeated 126. His highest ever league score for the club. He batted 180 minutes, and hit 13 fours and 2 sixes. Russ Bradley was undefeated with three.
LOOKING FORWARD
This Saturday sees a respite from league cricket with the first round of the Slater Cup.
Ironically, the same two sides do battle again for the second consecutive week but this time St Annes have home advantage at Vernon Road.
St Annes should have no problem progressing to the second round if they produce the same form against the Morecambrians as they did last week.
