NEW signing Lee Briscoe checked in at Burnley yesterday and insisted that he will be aiming high when the new season starts.

The former Sheffield Wednesday man said: "I don't think there's any point in starting the season just hoping to stay up. I think you've got to look as high as you can and realistically we want to look to have a go at the play-offs.

"And if that doesn't quite work out then we will be mid-table and established in the First Division.

"I think on our day we will be as good as any of the sides in the league and it's all about who wants it most and who plays best on the day." And the former England under-21 international, who can play at left-back or in midfield, believes it's a good time to be joining the newly promoted Clarets. He added: "On Monday and Tuesday it took a little bit of sorting out just talking to the manager and he convinced me that what happened at the end of last year can be carried on.

"Obviously the boys have got plenty of confidence and a bit of momentum going so we want to keep that going to the start of this season. Hopefully I can fit in and help them do that."
