A BLACKPOOL soldier has been deployed to Northern Ireland to support the Royal Ulster Constabulary (RUC) over the Drumcree period.
Private Chris Walsh of the 1st Battalion, Queen's Lancashire Regiment, pictured here, is currently training in the skills required to support the RUC while based at Magilligan Training Area in County Londonderry, on stand-by to move to Drumcree should their assistance be required.
Chris, 19, joined the Army two years ago as an infantry soldier. He said: "We've been really focusing on training here at Magilligan and I've found it a very challenging experience."
Commanding Officer of the 1st Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Alex Alderson (MBE), said the training in Northern Ireland makes sure soldiers understand the political and local difficulties.
Chris said: "We're here to provide whatever support the RUC need and we will do the best job we can."
