A SHETLAND pony has given birth to a filly foal after breaking out of her field and enjoying a rendezvous with a 15 hands high stallion!

The baby Shetland Domino has legs as long as her 37inch high mother Filska and has to stoop to feed!.

Filska lives with 23 other Shetlands high on the moors above Stacksteads. They are owned by the Lyth family -- mother May, son Andrew and daughter-in-law Joanne.

Joanne, of Pleasant View, said: "A bull from a neighbouring field broke through the fencing and Filska and some other Shetlands went in to see the stallion.

"We got the vet out to give them all injections to try to stop any pregnancies, but it must not have worked with Filska.

"She is 19 years old and has had four foals in the past. We don't use her for breeding because of her age. I was worried about how she would cope because she got very big. In the end she just had Domino on her own in the field and both are doing fine."

The stallion has since disappeared in to the hills above Stacksteads to enjoy a long earned rest where the Lyths were unable to track him down.

Joanne reckons Domino, named because of his distinctive black and white colouring just like his dad, could grow to 11 hands high and tower over his mum.

The Lyths show the Shetlands and young members of the family ride them but Joanne said: "We won't be able to show Domino because she is a Heinz!

"Filska is a devil for the men. We are not intending to use her for breeding again, least ways not if we can help it, but she may have other ideas though!"
