TWO dancing queens from Blackburn are coming on in leaps and bounds after spinning their way to success.

Laura Carruthers and Danielle Hartley (pictured) together won nine trophies at the Regional Disco Freestyle and Rock 'n' Roll Dancing competition, in Cambridge.

Laura, 11, from Lammack County School, came first in the rock'n'roll section and second in the solo event. Danielle, 13, from Witton Park County School, was first in the disco freestyle and compulsory figures.

The pair then teamed up and to win the rock'n'roll section. They also won a trophy in the disco doubles, competing against girls five years older.

Both are members of the Ally Katz Dancing Studio, Blackburn, and also compete in Latin American and modern ballroom dancing.

Linda O'Shea, principal of Ally Katz, said: "They are both very dedicated, they come in at 6.30am to get an hour in before school and then come back later to practise."

Danielle and Laura now go on to the national finals in October.
