YOUNGSTERS skipped to it to raise cash for charity -- and they were jumping for joy when they broke all school money-raising records.
Year Seven pupils from Pleckgate High School took part in the Jump Rope for Heart 2000 Appeal, a sponsored skip for a full 15 minutes during their PE lesson.
The gruelling activity left them shattered but decidedly elated as their efforts realised £2,000. That works out to almost £10 for every one of the 200 pupils.
"That is the most the school has ever raised and is a great achievement," said head of year Mark Brownridge. "You have to consider that 45 per cent of our children are on free school dinners, so it is remarkable."
The money will go to the British Heart Foundation -- a charity chosen for emotive reasons.
"Several of our children have actually lost their fathers through heart attacks," said Mr Brownridge." And several years ago our deputy head had to retire through heart problem."
Every pupil was praised and youngsters who raised the most cash were giving certificates to celebrate their achievements.
Sorouche Azedeh alone raised £112 and Mohammed Dawud £84. Many children realised totals around £30 to £40.
