THE rain came to Haydock's rescue at Southport Trinity on Saturday.

Trinity batted first and made 210-8 in their allotted overs. Only Martin Clarke (5-44) had the batsmen worried.

In reply Haydock were 44-3 (Scott Pickavance 28 not out) when rain intervened and the game was abandoned.

The seconds, meanwhile, enjoyed a great victory at home to Trinity.

Batting first, Haydock were soon in trouble as Conley went for one. But Barry Cross then took the attack to the visitors. He bludgeoned a great 81 and he was well supported by Gareth Bourhill, with a powerful 58 and Fogarty and Tinsley with 18 apiece.

Haydock finally posted 216-6 in 45 overs.

In reply, Trinity were soon in trouble as Paul Ikin (3-23) and Tinsley (3-22), backed up well by Bentham and Bushell had the Trinity batsmen back in the pavilion at 142 all out.

The third team's game at home to Mawdesley was also ended by the rain. Batting first, Haydock scored 207-8 (John Hulton 27, Dave Middlehurst 42, Tony Duncan 32 and Derek Gibson 50).

In reply Mawdesley were 33-1 when the weather broguht the game to an end.

The Sunday side lost to a strong Banks outfit. Banks 187-7 (Hughes 3-78), Haydock 132-7 (Gibosn 44, Rimmer 31 not out).
