ST HELENS were defeated by Worsley at Windleshaw Road on Saturday.

The visitors had first use of the wicket and their big guns, Heath Pedrola (92) and former Lancashire player Andy Hayhurst (42 not out) enabled them to declare at 212 off 47 overs.

St Helens slipped to 24-3, but Gareth Davies, finding his best form, scored 54 and Neil Hull 31.

But it wasn't enough to stop the team being all out for 154.

The second team were involved in a tie at Northern, with both teams making 128 all out.

But St Helens took the field with only 10 players, after Steve Jordan was called into the first team at the last moment.

Skipper Ian Lawless starred with the bat, making 56.

And the St Helens bowlers struggled to find their touch as Northern reached 92-2.

But Ian McCabe then changed the course of the match as heis eight overs resulted in five maidens, six wickets for 13 runs.

Northern took 14 runs off the penultimate over, but Ian Davies kept his nerve to tyake the last wicket in the last over with the scores level.

Tghe third team were defeat by Maghull on Sunday, with the onyl bright spot coming from Gareth Davies, whose 61 included 56 in boundaries.

The total of 115 all out never looked enough and the visitors reached it for the loss of six wickets.

This Saturday the first team are at home to Orrell in a match sponsored by R.A. Brewer, of Rainford.

The seconds travel to Northop Hall and the thirds are at New Brighton.
