PRESCOT and Odyssey CC finally chalked up their first victory of the season at Birkenhead St Mary's on Saturday.

Skipper Carl Oughterson won the toss and elected to field. The wicket proved to be very placid and the St Mary's batting began to build a good score utilising the short boundaries to good effect.

But the P&O bowlers stuck at their task and wickets fell Hayhurst (3) and Dagnall (2) with and two run-outs. St Mary's amassed a total of 217-7.

After the previous week's sterling performance against Sutton, Keeble was promoted to open with Steve Edwards. P&O started to make inroads to the total required but as the rain began to fall the outfield became noticibly slower but still P&O marched on losing wickets in the chase. Andy Greenwood who had made 98 not out for the secondsagainst Sutton continued his great form knocking the bowling to all points of the ground accruing 78 not out, and with scores of 31 from Edwards, 34 from Danson, ably supported by McComb, Oughterson and Murphy. P&O reached the target of 218 with two overs to go. The victory was a massive boost to the players who will hope to continue in the same vein this week when they entertain Parkfield.

The second Eleven made it two wins in two weeks with victory at home. Batting first P&O were floundering at 9 - 3 at one stage but rallied to 145 all out, Bill Ewen top scoring with 53, Scores of 24 from Pete West, 21 from Andy Murphy jnr and 20 from Mike Johns making the score respectable. The P&O bowling was equally determined and with Dave Green taking 2-33, Ian Carson 3-17 and Mike Johnes 4-14 St Mary's were all out for 126.

HThis Sunday a Prescot XI will take on a team comprising of former Prescot & Odyssey players in the annual Presidents Day fixture.
