CHILDREN in Earby are enjoying two new play areas they helped design after the £90,000 development was unveiled.

Pupils at Earby Springfield Primary School were asked what type of equipment they wanted to see in Northolme.

Once designs for the junior and infant areas had been drawn up, Pendle Council visited to give the youngsters a sneak preview.

They are now benefiting from the facilities, one of which features Pendle’s first-ever quad flyer – a dynamic piece of equip-ment which helps teenagers increase their upper body strength while having fun spinning around.

Mayor of Pendle Coun Marjorie Adams officially opened the play areas yesterday.

The new junior play area is at Northolme North while the infant area is at Northolme South. The council, which funded the scheme, also consulted Northolme Resid-ents’ Association through-out the development.

Parks and recreation service staff have project-managed the new play areas from start to finish. Debbie Taylor, landscape architect and project manager, said: “Some of the new play equipment on the infant play area includes swings, a see-saw, a climbing unit with a slide, and a dish spinner.

“The junior play area includes a massive climbing unit with monkey bars and slide, a tyre swing, surfboard rocker, round-about and more. There’s also a goal end for football, basketball and cricket to entertain the older kids.”
