SO, once again Blackburn with Darwen Council are prepared to throw away a piece of our history and heritage -- the Revidge tank. (LET, September 5).

It may not be a thing of beauty, but it holds happy memories for many in the town.

It was there on a November evening that my late husband and I got engaged. As he put the ring on my finger we looked over the lights of Blackburn and then walked down to King George's Hall and danced the night away.

If North West Water are prepared to spend £20,000 on repair before handing it over, and that would mean no maintenance costs for 10 years, how much of a burden is it likely to be on the local taxpayer?

I, for one, don't mind a fraction of my money being spent on it. Why not put it to the vote?

I would like to bet that the vast majority would support the Civic Society and so keep this part of our history.
