DESPITE the persistent rain the Bury club had a small working party on Parkers last Saturday.

The debris from a burnt out vehicle was cleared from the car park, and an amount of flytipping, kindly removed by one our members in his van.

The bulrushes surrounding the fieldside stillages was also cleared, and the bankside willows pruned.

Reports from local waters indicate goods catches of perch from the Big Carcass.

The Island Lodge despite reduced temperatures is still producing skimmer bream and perch in abundance from the tree lined bankside pegs.

In the latest Pilsworth Open fished on the Carp Lake. S. Todd, Lumb Valley had top weight of 16-0-0, in second place, P. Silveridge (GTI) 9.1-0) and third, Sandy Barker (GTI) 7-0-0.

For the fifth year running, Keenets North West have dominated the Drennan North West Super League and took the championship on Saturday for the fifth time.

In the Lancashire Team Championship practice on the Lancaster Canal at Garstang on Sunday, fished by 102 anglers. Top weight fell to Albert Malcomson (Keenets NW) 6-10-0, second place, C. Lowe (BAS 2000) 5-9-11, third place Derek Pimlott (Keenets NW) 4-15-2, fourth place J. Bennet (Elton AC) 4-13-9.

ON Sunday seven strong party from the club travelled to Conway to fish aboard Hunters ll.

In variable weather conditions of squally showers, gusty winds without rain and clear blue skies, and in the distance torrential downpours. The sea was far from flat, but fishable on very stable boat. The party steamed out for one hour to fish the wreaks off Anglesey, they caught codling, gurnard, pollack, mackerel, scad.

Young Ben Durose kept the party supplied with fresh mackerel bait, a 4lb pollack and small codling. Biggest fish fell top Alan Bradshaw with a 12 pollack, in a total catch of ten fish Dougie Durose had one of 11lb in a total catch of 12 fish. Mick from Radcliffe also had a pollack of 11lb. Dougie chose to fish mackerel strip on a long trace, with others using red gills and jelly worms. Frozen sand eels not producing on the day. The party accounted for 50 pollack on the day with the fish all above average weight.

The boat skippered by Arthur, brewed up for the party throughout the day, assisting with the net to land the bigger fish, and positioned the boat relative to the wind and tide to give long drifts over the wrecks, and produced a plastic bag for the disposal of rubbish, members are reminded not to dispose of rubbish at sea, as it is illegal.

For next year, Eddie Ward had ordered a new boat, a Catamaran.

Also the cost of trips will increase next year, there have been three price increases this year in the basic price of fuel without government taxes.

THE next trip is to Conway on Sunday, October 22 to fish aboard Lady Gwen ll.

THIS coming Sunday, October 15 the club have a match on Cliffe Reservoir at Stubbins, the draw will be at 7.15pm, fishing from 8am to 1pm.

THIS Sunday, October 15, Parkers is the venue for the October Cup, draw will be 9am, fishing from 10am to 3pm.

Despite high water levels, the venue has been fishing well for small skimmer bream.

On Monday, October 16 the club have a committee meeting at Elton Liberal Club at 7.30pm. At this meeting, future working parties will be arranged

The October monthly meeting takes place on Monday, October 30.
