I HAVE recently taken over as secretary of the HMS Argonaut Association, and am seeking to increase the number of members.
HMS Argonaut was a Dido class cruiser during the Second World War. During her short life well over 1,000 people served in her.
During the first commission her bows were blown off and she also lost her stern as a result of a torpedo attack. Fortunately, she was able to limp her way to America, where she was repaired.
"Our" Argonaut was broken up in 1955, but a frigate built in the 1960s was also named Argonaut.
We would like to hear from anyone who served on these ships, or from relatives of any former crew members.
It would be very useful if those replying indicate in which division they served -- top, torpedo, RM etc.
ERIC JONES, Secretary, HMS Argonaut Association, 5A, Alexandra Road, Southampton SO15 5DH.
