TOWN hall bosses spent more than £46,000 keeping services on the road during the recent fuel crisis.
New figures show that transport expenses and money lost on staff and plant "down time" cost the council £46,789.
The local authority had to suspend some of its normal work to conserve fuel so that essential services could operate.
Mr Dennis Taylor, chief executive, described the response of council staff to the crisis as "magnificent", and also praised the tolerance and understanding of Bury people.
