POOR parents and their children could rise out of poverty under "revolutionary" plans to expand childcare provision.
MP David Chaytor has cheered Government proposals to create one million extra childcare places by 2004.
A large chunk of the £134 million boost will target deprived areas, where Labour hopes to create 900 new nurseries.
Ministers also aim to provide a childcare place for every lone parent in disadvantaged areas who takes up a job.
"This is nothing short of a revolution in the provision of childcare," said the MP for Bury North.
"This is the biggest ever investment in childcare places and, what's more, it's targeted at those who need it most."
