TORRENTIAL rain over the weekend failed to put off the runners in the fifth Manchester Marathon on Sunday (Oct 8).
Although dry on the day, the route was a little damp under foot as crowds of spectators lined the streets of Prestwich to watch more than 1,400 competitors make their way from the start in Heaton Park.
The runners covered the park grounds for three miles before taking to St Margaret's Road and on to Bury New Road.
Motorists were warned of local road closures while the massive event got underway and police advised people to allow extra time for essential journeys.
Many of the competitors underwent the gruelling task for charity and completed the course with a smile and a wave in Wythenshawe Park, Manchester. knowing they had raised cash for good causes.
