A CASH reward is being offered by a disabled Bury businessman to track down callous thieves who trashed his specially-adapted van.

Wheelchair user Steve Brooks (44) was forced to spend nearly £2,000 replacing side windows and repairing the van's tail-lift after the raiders attacked the vehicle, which was parked outside Mr Brooks' home in Sixth Avenue, Fairfield, Bury, on Saturday night (Oct 7).

The thieves were disturbed during the night and managed to get away with one window but they returned hours later to steal a second. They also smashed the tail-lift control panel.

Steve, who runs Girling Engineering in Dumers Lane, Radcliffe, said: "Those responsible are vermin. The van was specially built to accommodate my wheelchair and it is obvious to anyone that the van is a disabled person's vehicle.

"The thieves knew exactly what they wanted. The CD player was not touched and nothing else of value was taken. The windows are more than likely to be used in a customised vehicle."

Anyone with information should contact Bury police on 872 5050.
