EVERYTHING'S coming up roses for the pupils at Elms Bank High School for the youngsters have scooped a cash prize to create a new garden area.

The school, in Ripon Avenue, Whitefield were awarded a runners-up prize of £100 in the national scheme, BT Grounds for the Future.

Along with five other schools in the North West, Elms Bank were highly commended for their ideas to improve the school grounds in order to make better educational and play environments for other pupils.

The school, which also received one year's membership of the national charities Learning Through Landscapes and BTCV (British Trust for Conservation Volunteers), will put the money towards making a wildflower meadow and garden area.

Delighted headteacher Ms Lynn Lines said: "The pupils involved did very well and the money will help to build on our sensory garden in developing a nicer environment around school."

Over the year the scheme offers cash prizes ranging from £100 to £1,000 from a total prize fund of £60,000 and local schools, primary, secondary and special schools, are invited to take part in the next round of awards.
