POLICE in Leyland say last week's drugs bust in the town was just the tip of the iceberg in their war against narcotics abuse.

Operation Trigger uncovered more than half a million pound worth of class A drugs from the Moss Side and Wade Hall areas of Leyland.

Up to 300 police officers were involved and 22 people have been charge with drug-related offences. They will appear at Chorley Magistrates Court today (October 12).

Now, inspector Marc Vincent from Leyland Police says search warrants have already been issued at other addresses in the town following the dawn raids last Monday (October 2).

And, police say they are confident that they are on top of the problem and aim to be one step ahead of the drug gangs.

Insp Vincent said: "We now have a very detailed picture of the drugs hierarchy in Leyland.

"But some just don't want to stop -- they are the worst to tackle. "A detailed intelligence operation has made us fully aware of how it works and we have already issued search warrants at other addresses since last week's swoop.

"The difficulty is in ensuring those who offer support and services to users continue to do so with the aim of reduction in mind."

Now, officers are working closely with South Ribble Borough Council chiefs in a bid to crack the problem once and for all.

Insp Vincent added: "It would be nice to say we could eliminate drug use altogether, but clearly that won't happen.

"However, we want to send out the message that we will not tolerate it and we will be harsh."

"Anyone with useful information or with concerns should contact us so we can continue the work we are doing."
