A LEYLAND student has been made his first step towards becoming a professional coach after being made a community sports leader by the British Sports Trust.
John Tootell, 17, from Jane Lane, Midge Hall (pictured), was among 17 students presented with a certificate and badge at a ceremony at Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School, Blackburn.
The scheme gives people aged over 16 the chance to develop the skills required to lead and organise groups in a range of sporting activities and paves the way to gaining coaching qualifications from national governing bodies.
Headmaster at Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School, Dr David Hempsall, said the award was a popular one among students and added: "I am delighted for John who is now a fully qualified Community Sports Leader.
"I am sure it will be a valuable foundation for continuing his involvement in sport in years to come."
