A NEW charity shop opens in Leyland on October 12 aimed at raising loads of cash for Derian House Children's Hospice, in Chorley.

But, unlike other charity shops, The Derian House shop, in Hough Lane, Leyland, plans to sell unwanted designer clothes only, with labels such as Gucci, Prada and Vivienne Westwood.

Building work started eight weeks ago to repair the vacant property situated opposite the Churchill Way carpark.

But, with little cash to spare, the charity had to call on a host of local building firms to lend a helping hand and brought in some muscle via the Probation Service's community service team.

Derian House development manager, Collette Whittaker, explained: "ASC in Chorley gave us a new kitchen and Raabkarcher, in Wigan Lane, supplied timber for the floor and tongue and groove for the wall.

"Lanes Decor, in Chorley and Ace Decor, in Leyland, supplied paint and a host of other places donated other much-needed materials.

"And the lads from the probation service were wonderful. One automatically thinks of these people as just criminals, but they've been tremendous."

Now Collette is looking for volunteers to help run the town centre shop. Call her on 07775 700 026 for details.
