STOCKPORT County are hoping to sign Scotland under-21 midfielder Grant Brebner on loan from Hibernian in time for him to make his debut at Turf Moor tomorrow.

The Hatters have struggled in midfield this season and recently sold Tony Dinning to Wolves for £600,000.

And boss Andy Kilner has now moved to plug that gap by setting up a three-month loan deal for the former Manchester United youngster who moved from Reading to Hibernian for £400,000 last season. Ex-Clarets winger Kilner is desperate for a win over the club where he launched his career after a disastrous run of results.

County director David Jolley revealed that some "horrible letters" had been sent to the club concerning the manager's position but he continues to back Kilner, who replaced Gary Megson in the Stockport hot-seat in July last year.

Jolley admitted that a run of one win in 11 games to start the season could be deemed unacceptable but pointed to a lengthy injury list as a mitigating circumstance.

He added: "Andy Kilner is very enthusiastic, well qualified and a highly motivated guy and I am very happy with him.

"But I am only one director out of six. Others might have different ideas, I don't know. It's a subject we haven't discussed in the boardroom."

If Brebner signs in time, he could partner Finnish international Jarkko Wiss in midfield after he returned from mid-week international duty against England with no injury problems and eager to play.
