POTENTIAL future Clarets team-mates Andy Payton and Ian Moore are set for a Turf Moor shoot-out tomorrow.

The two seven-goal strikers are poised to go head-to-head when Burnley take on Stockport County in the first of two home games in the space of four days.

And Stockport skipper Mike Flynn believes that Payton and Moore, the subject of a £1.2 million bid from Burnley, could hold the key.

Flynn said: "The First Division is all about strikers. You look at every game and there are quality strikers.

"That's where the division is won and lost. Defences are very tight and it's the team that can capitalise on the chances created and stick them away that comes out on top.

"The strikers we have come up against in the last month have been on fire and hopefully Burnley's will have an off day.

"I have played against Andy Payton a couple of times. He's been around and he knows where the goals is.

"He's got seven so far and Ian Moore has got seven so a lot of it will be between the two of them."

Burnley also made an offer for Flynn at the start of the season but the long-serving County defender, who has since pledged his future to the Edgeley Park club, inists that will have no bearing tomorrow.

He added: "I don't think myself or Ian Moore have anything to prove to anybody. Stan Ternent knows what we can and can't do. There have been bids put in for us and hopefully we will show Burnley what they are missing." Ternent echoed that message when he said that Moore had nothing to prove and the Burnley boss has already seen enough of the striker to hope that a move to bring him to Turf Moor could still come off.

However, Ternent re-iterated that Andy Cooke, who could come back into the reckoning tomorrow after missing last Friday's win at Tranmere, would not be going the opposite way as part of any deal.

Stockport are resigned to Moore leaving the club at some stage but manager Andy Kilner expects the 24-year-old to be able to concentrate on the job in hand as County look for only their fourth win in 36 games.

"I think there's no doubt he's professional enough. He's got a bigger move in him and he realises what he must do is just keep playing for us and continue to score and that will come," said Kilner, who is hoping the occasion will inspire his side.

"It's a derby game and that should bring the best out of our players," he added.

Strikers look certain to take centre stage with new Clarets loan signing Paul Robinson expected to start his initial month's stay on the bench.

However, Ternent, who selects from a fully fit squad, will be looking for a good impression from the Wimbledon man with a possible permanent move in the pipeline.

And Dons boss Terry Burton is also looking to Robinson to make an impact.

"It's no good being 21 and not playing first-team football. He's gone up there to see if he can make a mark," he said.
