A BLACKPOOL priest is putting his weight behind a fund-raising campaign for Trinity, the Hospice in the Fylde.

Father Denis Blackedge, of Church House, Talbot Road, has pledged to raise funds for the hospice, situated on Low Moor Road, Bispham, with a sponsored slim as he tries to shed some of his 18.5 stone.

"I'm desperate to lose weight and can think of no better incentive than by committing my support to Trinity," said Father Denis when he popped in to be weighed by hospice matron Kathryn Burn.

"We are so lucky in this area to have a place like Trinity and I know this isn't going to be easy as I enjoy my food too much, but for a worthy cause it will be worth the sacrifice."

Father Denis intends to lose at least two stones before Ash Wednesday 2001.

If you would like to sponsor him, he can be contacted on 297666.
