BLACKPOOL'S Victoria Hospital has just taken delivery of 633 new beds to replace existing beds, some of which were up to 15 years old.
The top of the range Evolution 156 beds will be installed between now (October 11) and December and are fitted with electronic buttons which allow patients to raise and lower themselves, and also have pressure-reducing mattresses. Both features should reduce pressure sores and injuries to nurses caused by lifting.
Mr Rajan Sethi, the trust's procurement manager said: "The new beds will play a pivotal role in supporting and meeting the increasing demands of both patients and nurses. This will put Blackpool Victoria Hospital at the leading edge of NHS hospitals in the UK."
