A FARMYARD scene will be recreated during a fun day at Asda on Saturday, October 14.

The local farmers will create a display including farm animals and tractors, and there will be give-aways such as t-shirts, fridge magnets, flags and badges.

Customers at Asda will be able to find out more about the producers of their food and how the new British Farm Standard logo will help customers to ensure that they are buying top quality products from British farmers.

Gressingham dairy farmer and chairman of the Lancaster branch of the NFU, Peter Lumb, said: "It is important for food producers and food consumers to have an opportunity to come together and talk. Much of the food on sale in the supermarket is produced by British farmers and public demand for quality local food has never been greater. Thanks to the new British Farm Standard logo consumers will now be able to clearly and easily identify British food on the shelves and that's one of the messages we will be getting across next Saturday."

This is the latest move by the NFU to fight the depression that the agriculture industry has faced in recent years, initially fuelled by the BSE crisis.
