BLACKBURN Hawks are facing the toughest of double headers at the Arena this weekend with games against Invicta Dynamos and Kingston, but the timing couldn't have been better.

Confidence in the camp has been boosted by two wins, a battling 5-4 triumph over Sunderland at home, and a first away win last weekend when the Hawks shut out bottom club Bradford Bulldogs 14-0. Early season injury problems, particularly to key man Danny Mackriel, have evaporated and the Hawks are firing on all cylinders. None more so than Craig Sharman who has netted successive hat-tricks in the recent victories.

At Bradford Colin Downie achieved a rare League shut-out, and popular Scottish defence-man Gordon Whyte collected the Man of the Match award as the Hawks ran riot.

It will be different this weekend, however. Saturdays game is a Premier Cup tie with top club Invicta Dynamos (Gillingham) providing the opposition. On Sunday Kingston Jets, who defeated the Hawks 14-1 last month, travel from Hull for a League match.

Coach Bobby Haig remains upbeat about the Hawks prospects.

He said: "I dont know much about Invicta, but they will probably field six or seven imports. Everybody will get a game in this one, the odds are against us winning but stranger things have happened.

"The important thing is everyone comes through without injuries ahead of the League game on Sunday. As for Kingston, we have built up confidence since we played them and it will be a very different team they are facing this time."

Both matches face-off at 6pm.
