OH how I agree with the points made by recent correspondents about the litter problem in Bury. I really don't know what is the matter with people these days. They seem so apathetic.
I visited Cheltenham and Newmarket earlier this year. Did I see lots of litter? No. I visit Morecambe and Heysham on a regular basis and they, too, are in a far better state. When I go away from Bury I really do not want to return to the rubbish dump my local area has now become.
Living near the Chesham precinct I see people of all ages coming out of the shops and dropping litter. People in cars eat their takeaways and then just throw the packaging out of the window.
There are ample bins provided close by. Sometimes I wonder whether people actually know what a bin is for! There really is no excuse. I was taught to take litter home if there was no bin around.
A common cause of litter today is the "fliers" stuck under car windscreen wipers. They either blow out or the car owners just drop them on the floor.
Take a look around everyone and make an effort. Every little helps.
Here is a little slogan: See that, it's a bin; there to put your litter in.
