THE past few days have been much colder, just short of frosty, but the Island Lodge still continues to fish well for quality perch and skimmer bream.

Crompton's Lodge at Elton produced quality roach in excellent condition for Steve Madden and Ray Booth on Sunday, despite the problem of weed growth. This should die back with the first frosts.

On the match fishing scene, R. Gongle travelled to Leigh on Sunday to fish the Plank Lane AS Open on the Bridgewater Canal, fished by 36 anglers. Roy took top weight 1-14-8. In second place, B. Prescott (Leigh) took 1-128 and in a tie for third place E. Goldthorpe and D. Roberts (Plank Lane) took 1-12-0.

Also on Sunday, the fifth round of the Weathercall Team championships took place on the Bridgewater Canal (Lancashire Division), 114 anglers fished. Several big fish were lost on the boats. Despite this, good weights were recorded. Top weight fell to D. Proctor (Leyland & Dist) 14-10-0 with one carp plus silver fish. In second place P. Hughes (Saints) took 13-8-0, in third place K. Padmore (Ted Carter, Southport) took 11-8-0 and in fourth, S. Burgess (BAS 2000) took 9-5-8.

The final match in the series takes place on Sunday.
