THE inquest has been opened in the case of an 82-year-old widow who died in Fairfield General Hospital in Bury, just over three weeks after being admitted with fractured arms.
Bury District Coroner Barrie Williams was told that the mystery of how she received the injuries was unravelled by Mrs Elsie Greenhalgh herself to relatives.
Mrs Greenhalgh, of Ormerod Avenue, Bury, was able to tell them before her death, that she had fallen over a pouffe whilst closing the curtains in her home in the dark. The fall had fractured both her arms.
Coroner's officer Mr Geoff Cave told the inquest, there was no question of foul play or third party involvement in the accident.
Evidence of identification was given to the hearing by Mrs Greenhalgh's son, Mr Keith Greenhalgh, of Rhine Close, Tottington.
The coroner duly adjourned the inquest pending further medical evidence and a pathologist's report.
