A WORLD record tree planting attempt will take place at Beacon Fell Country Park near Longridge this weekend. Lancashire County Council chairman, Councillor Bob Clark, will lead the three-day planting marathon, starting at 10am today, in conjunction with Esso National Tree Week.

Beacon Fell is one of hundreds of sites across the country taking part in the event and rangers are hoping, with the help of members of the public, that around 2,000 trees will be planted over the three days.

Coun Clark said: "I hope as many people as possible can join in the event which is not only an opportunity to be part of a world record breaking attempt, but a great way to help the environment.

"Tools and trees are provided and volunteers are advised to dress suitably for the outdoors. I'm sure many people will want to join me in shaping the landscape of Beacon Fell for future generations."
