THE new cycle and pedestrian bridge across the River Lune is absolutely fantastic and anyone who thinks otherwise has obviously never tried walking or cycling between Lancaster city centre and those parts of our district to the north of the river. The people whingeing about it should get out more - in particular they should get out of their cars and note how obnoxiously ugly are the existing bridges, two of which are almost always full of disgusting metal objects. Depending on the time of day these are either hurtling along at speeds liable to kill anyone brave enough to venture out into the open air or else bumper to bumper, coughing out horrendous fumes and contaminating the air of those good souls trying to do us all and the planet a mighty big favour by using their legs.

The new bridge is beautiful, and it will encourage more beautiful people to do beautiful things like ride beautiful bicycles or show off their beautiful legs whilst crossing our beautiful river. In the beautiful process they will make our city more beautiful, and help to counteract those miseries who have spent so long in their ugly metal boxes their brains have got seriously addled.
