DUCKS and fish on Stanley Park's boating lake had an extra play area this week after the banks burst leaving paths and benches and even the bandstand submerged under two feet of water (right).

A blocked sluice gate leading out of the lake caused the water level to rise.

It is expected to take a few days to subside because maintenance men cannot access the gate for safety reasons.

Water from the lake usually filters through the gate into local nature reserve Marton Mere, but the water level continued to rise due to water filtering in from other streams in the area.
