AS a mother of two children I am shocked and disturbed by the actions of some parents who take their children shopping to Preston.

With Christmas coming-up it is understandable that parents have to take their pre-school age children into town to buy presents and so on.

But is there any need for parents not to keep an eye on their children while deciding what to buy.

The other day I saw several little wandering behind their mums in St George's Shopping Centre and around the doors of various shops, while their parents talked to the shop assistants inside. I could have easily run off with at least ten little children if I was inclined to do so.

Have parents forgotten the horrid death of little Jamie Bulger some years ago.

This little youngster was lured away by two boys in nothing more than a split second.

Just like the rest off us, I'm sure Jamie's mum thought that something so horrible would never happen to her son, and yet it did and in broad daylight.

But at least this little boy's death need not be in vain if other parents learn from this tragedy and keep hold of their children's hands.

I'm afraid that if they don't, there will be another Jamie Bulger death before too long, in this world littered with thugs and child abusers.

So please parents, watch your youngsters and keep them safe, before they are snatched away by mindless people who haven't got a heart.

Caring mum,

Leyland Road,

Penwortham.
