BLACKBURN new-boy Marcus Bent today warned the rest of the First Division 'my best is yet to come' after joining Graeme Souness's Rovers revolution.

The 22-year-old striker completed his move from Sheffield United yesterday after putting pen-to-paper on a three and a half year contract.

And Souness's latest signing is ready to prove he can become a Premiership hot-shot by firing the goals to lead Rovers to promotion.

"This is a great opportunity for me and I'm very excited about it," said Bent, who looked set to be named amongst the subs for this afternoon's clash with Gillingham.

"You always want to move up in the world and do as well as you can and I feel I've got a great opportunity to do that with Rovers.

"I'm only 22 and I feel my career has jump-started since I joined Sheffield United a year ago.

"I think there's a lot more to come from me and, hopefully, I can show it here."

Souness has been chasing Bent for a while in a bid to bolster his striking resources.

And, now he has finally got his man, competition is sure to be fierce upfront once everyone is fit with Bent, Matt Jansen, Mark Hughes, Nathan Blake and Egil Ostenstad all fighting for two positions.

That, however, has not put off the former England Under 21 international.

And, if anything, he believes that could bring on his game. "It's good in a way to have so much competition because it keeps you on your toes," said Bent.

"If you haven't got that competition then you can soon start taking things for granted.

"So to be playing with people like Mark Hughes, Nathan Blake and Matt Jansen can only take my game even further.

"And I'm very excited by the prospect of that.

"Whenever I've played aginst Blackburn in the past, they tend to create a lot of chances and get plenty of crosses into the box, which suits me down to the ground."

Bent is also excited by the prospect of working with Rovers boss Graeme Souness.

And he believes the Ewood chief could be the man to get the best out of him.

"I've been very impressed by him so far," said Bent.

"He's a very experienced manager, he's done it in the game, and he's done it in management.

"So, hopefully, he can bring mental strength, ability and quality into my game."

The former Crystal Palace also believes the race for the First Division title is far from resolved after pitting his wits against runaway leaders Fulham earlier this week.

"We played Fulham on Tuesday night and they are starting to slow down a bit," said Bent.

"They're a good side -- don't get me wrong -- and they'll always be up near the top.

"But we'll see what happens come the end of the season." Meanwhile, as we reported in last night's final editions, midfield hardman Billy McKinlay has quit Rovers to join Bradford City's Premiership relegation dogfight.

Bottom-of-the-table City have taken over the remainder of the Scot's contract with the incentive of an offer for the whole of next season if he proves his form and fitness.

The Scottish international midfielder becomes new Bantams boss Jim Jefferies' first signing following a brief spell on loan at Leicester.

And he was due to make his debut against Middlesbrough today.

Blackburn Rovers Disabled Supporters Club are holding their annual Christmas Party in the Centenary Suite at Ewood on Tuesday December 5.

Tickets are priced £3 and can be purchased in advance or on the night, which starts at 7pm.
