LEIGH'S six game winning start to the season is the club's best for half a century.

And if they make it a magnificent seven by beating Workington at Hilton Park on Sunday, Leigh will re-write a record that has stood since 1951.

Even Leigh's Division One championship team of 1981-82 or the Guinness Book of Records squad of 1985-86 could not match what Paul Terzis' current side has achieved.

The 81-82 champions opened with five straight wins before a defeat and a draw while the 85-86 version - which went on to figure in the 'Guinness' for the most points scored in a season - began that campaign with four wins.

In 1951-52, with the likes of Trevor Allan in the side, Leigh had six of the best before the sequence was broken by a 9-7 defeat by Swinton. The team of 1922-23 also kicked off with six straight wins.
