A COMMUNITY allotments scheme has been launched in the Harold Street area of Burnley.
Fourteen local people including youngsters turned out for the launch at Chicken Hill allotments to help plant rose trees, bulbs and potatoes.
The scheme is run by Sustainability Action partnership based in Yorkshire Street=.
Open spaces officer Liz Moore said: "We have rented out one end of the allotments which have fallen into disuse and have become overgrown.
"We want to encourage local people to take part in a community gardening project and to get free food by growing their own."
Locals will be provided with tools on loan and plenty of expert advice.
To get involved, contact Liz on 01282 704606.
